Lesson in life

Friday, 10 April 2015

Just the other day I was watching a movie with the kids called Mr Peabody and Sherman. Such a cute film with an awesome  moral of the story.  Mr. Peabody, the most accomplished canine, and his boy, Sherman, uses a time machine to embark on outrageous adventures. However, when Sherman takes the machine without permission and causes havoc with world history it is up to Mr. Peabody to rescue the past, present and future from being completely altered.

Sherman discovers Leonardo da Vinci's flying machine and with a bit of hesitation he gets in and decide to fly it. Just to impress a girl - it's the natural order of things. He aced it, flying in between buildings and keeping the plane in the air. That was until his dad saw what he did. As any parent would do, Mr Peabody freaked out when he saw what his son was busy doing. Knowing full well he is incompetent in doing what he did. He immediately yelled at the top of his voice telling his son, that was still flying the plane, he is incapable of doing it. Sherman repeated his dad words to himself and in an instant he believed those words and crashed the plane.

I don't have to spell it out, you can guess what I am about to say. The tongue is mightier than the sword. Choose your words wisely as your kids would believe some of what you say. Depends on the age, I guess. Embrace the challenges they choose upon themselves, although it might not easy. Let them keep their childhood faith, after all if you can dream it, you can do it.

Three reps of 12

Wednesday, 25 February 2015

After a chat with my friend we both realized (as if we didn't knew this before) we had to loose weight. We exchanged whale mail (fat photos of ourselves) and decided to start an exercise routine from home. I don't believe in gyms. I have joined before but as it turns out you actually have to go. Having a monthly debit order is going to get me skinny.

As you might have read on my about page, I am a chocoholic which makes all the more sense and more difficult to be skinnier.  To defend the above mentioned issue I have to admit that I still fall into the 'normal weight' bracket when I worked out my BMI which is fantastic but I still need to loose some kg's.

The plan of action:
Three reps of 12 each.

I made a compilation of my favorite exercises. I am not going to torture myself. Therefore no burpees. Yeah - I rule! Wearing high heels to work is torturous enough. If I am going to do this, I actually have to like what I'm doing. If you don't know how to do the exercise - google it or watch a youtube video. That's what I did.

If you are making use of these exercises please let me know what the progress is.
Would love to know...

The first step is the hardest

Thursday, 15 January 2015

After spending most of my day at a medical centre yesterday I have to make serious changes to my diet/lifestyle. It might be easy for some but I really really like coffee and chocolate and cookies, not biscuits - koekies!

I have to minimize my intake of caffeine, chocolate, soft drinks and stress. That is easier said than done especially if you travel on the N1 everyday.

Small steps. Baby steps ...

I don't want to be a vegan vegetarian who is also banting, I just want to start living healthier. Although I almost lead myself into temptation today at Clicks. It was all going well until I was walking toward the cashiers. I was greeted by two rows of eye catching packaging filled with yummy deliciousness. I closed my eyes and thought of someone I saw yesterday - it's all fun and games until your jeans don't fit.  I do fit in my jeans but skinny (yeah right) is not everything. You have to be healthy as well. If it's not the most important.

Anyway, I ate 5 or 6 potions of fruit and I feel awesome about not buying or eating anything sweet or drinking a coke.

I will take this one step at a time and I feel healthier already!

Oh yes, I have to exercise as well!  Will let you know how that goes tomorrow.

Salute!

Today is a sad day.

It started with my car's clutch cable that snapped right before it was my time to turn at the Rivonia offramp. Oh the joys of sitting in traffic everyday!

I own the car since 2006 and since then I have had no problems. It has never left me beside the road due to any fault whether it was because of human or technical error but today was the day.

I had to wave it off as the tow truck drove away and I have to admit I am sad, tearful even. I have used the car while moving, driving to and from work, it even clocked 100 000km's last week.

My little blue, I am proud to say that I drove you and thanks for never letting me down, I salute you!
